Description from the seller
French Revolution - National Convention - Historical Documents (Folder)
Folder in 4° (cm. 28 x 24), 15 pieces.
Very interesting collection of French documents from the revolutionary era, consisting of 15 items including pamphlets, communications, resolutions, handwritten notes, reports, decrees, and more, published by the Convention Nationale and other committees. An intriguing old print is included, depicting a model of the guillotine! The entire collection is stored in a folder with half-cloth binding and marbled paper, secured with fabric ties and a handwritten label on the cover (Revolution Francaise – documents d'epoque). Overall, the condition is good considering it is about 230 years old! A fascinating piece for the study of French history, to be examined carefully.
The National Convention (in French, Convention Nationale) was an executive and legislative assembly in effect during the French Revolution, from September 20, 1792, to October 26, 1795. Its members were elected in the 1792 legislative elections. It was by right the collegial body that exercised the function of head of state of the French First Republic from 1792 to 1795. Called to provide the new republic with a Constitution, voted in 1793, it had to face struggles among different factions, which later degenerated into the Reign of Terror under the two committees of Public Safety and General Security, during the period 1793 to July 1794.
