The first volume contains a lengthy introduction to the journey of Greece, comprising 247 pages, followed by notes. The seventh volume includes a general table. Map filled with Greece in volume 1 (restoration on the back).
The Voyage of Anacharsis thoroughly acquaints us with the religious, civil, literary, and philosophical history of the most enlightened nation of Antiquity. It is a masterpiece of erudition, composition, and style.
Result of 30 years of studies, Barthélémy's work was published for the first time in 1788, on the eve of the Revolution. Despite public concerns, the impact was immense and the success universal. It notably contributed to neo-classicism and its renewed taste for Greece.
