Merlin 33 fountain pen by Merlin, with a blue marbleized celluloid body and cap, 14K gold flexible nib, ebonite feed, and a piston/slider filling system, from mid-20th century Germany, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
This Merlin 33 fountain pen, in its elegant marble blue tone, is in very good condition, notable for the beauty of its celluloid, the integrity of its engravings, and the exceptional performance of its 14-karat flexible gold nib, a feature especially valued by collectors and enthusiasts of expressive writing.
The marbled blue celluloid of the body and cap presents a deep, uniform shine, with light and dark veins creating a dynamic visual effect characteristic of high-quality Merlins. No cracks, fissures, or deformations are observed. Only slight micro-scratches, typical of age, are visible, fully consistent with a well-maintained vintage piece. The engraving 'Merlin 33' remains firm, clear, and correctly gold-colored.
The cap retains its original gold clip with the 'M' emblem, perfectly aligned and with good tension, without any looseness. The central ring shows a uniform gold finish with no significant loss. The snap closure functions properly, remaining secure when in place.
The 14K gold nib, with the brand's classic engraving, is one of the most notable features of the item. Its condition is excellent, with aligned hoods, a shiny surface, and no structural wear. This nib offers real flexibility, allowing for natural variation in stroke and expressive writing, ideal for both calligraphy and artistic writing. The flexibility is well-controlled, with smooth return and good response.
The ebonite feeder, with its fins well defined, is kept in very good condition, with no wear or alterations, which ensures a constant and balanced flow of ink.
The charging system, corresponding to the internal mechanism of the Merlin 33 series (piston/slider type), maintains good exterior integrity and operability, suitable for everyday use if desired.
Overall, this Merlin 33 marbled blue is a very attractive piece of high interest to collectors, especially due to its 14K gold flexible nib, its excellent aesthetic presence, and its overall preservation. It is a fully functional, elegant example with a writing character that is hard to find in modern fountain pens.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
