Philip Jones Griffiths (1936 – 2008) Griffiths began his career as a full-time freelance photographer in 1961 for The Observer, and traveled to Algeria in 1962. He arrived in Vietnam in 1966, working for the Magnum agency. Magnum struggled to sell his images to American magazines because they emphasized the suffering of the Vietnamese people and reflected his view of the war as an episode of the ongoing decolonization of former Western possessions. However, he eventually managed to secure a scoop that appealed to the American media: photographs of Jackie Kennedy on vacation with a friend in Cambodia. The income from these photos allowed him to continue covering Vietnam and to publish Vietnam Inc. in 1971. This book had a major influence on the American perception of the war and became a classic of photojournalism. The work is the result of Griffiths' efforts between 1966 and 1971 in the country and remains one of the most detailed reports ever made on a conflict. It contains striking descriptions of the horrors of war, as well as a study of rural Vietnamese life and testimonies from American soldiers. One of the most cited passages is undoubtedly that of a source from the American army discussing napalm. (Wikipedia)
Exemplary in very good overall condition with inevitable signs of age and use on the cover edges and a slight musty smell (neutralized with a transparent sleeve). A book from my personal collection kept with great care since purchase about twenty years ago. Shipped protected with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracking. For multiple purchases, there is the possibility of combined shipping with a refund of any excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
