Description from the seller
Layer Composition
Layer 1 – Purple Amethyst
• Crystal termination zone with iron-rich silica responsible for the vivid purple crown.
Layer 2 – White Quartz / Chalcedony
• Milky transitional layer that bridges the amethyst top with the agate structure below.
Layer 3 – Yellow Honey Agate Bands
• Microcrystalline silica coloured by iron oxides that create the warm yellow and honey banding.
Layer 4 – Golden Brown Iron-rich Agate
• Dense basal layer enriched with iron minerals that gives the piece its golden foundation.
Description:
This piece rises from the mineral landscape of Uruguay where amethyst geodes form deep inside volcanic cavities. Within these geodes the upper zone crystallises into violet amethyst while the lower regions develop into quartz, chalcedony and warm coloured agate bands. Lapidaries sometimes select these natural sections and carve them into cylinders so that the internal structure becomes visible in a clean vertical cut while the top remains completely natural and untouched.
The crown of this specimen shows the typical amethyst growth of Uruguay with bright violet tones and a textured termination that has been left exactly as found. Below the amethyst the colour shifts into a pale white quartz transition which gradually moves into layers of chalcedony and agate. These bands display tones of honey, sand, soft orange and deeper earthy browns created over long geological periods through the slow deposition of silica and iron rich solutions.
The result is a piece that combines a natural crystal top with a carved body that reveals the entire geological story of its formation. Collectors appreciate these cylinders for their aesthetic vertical flow, for their meditative presence and for the way each layer aligns in a clear and harmonious sequence. The contrast between the untouched amethyst termination and the polished cylindrical body brings a balance between raw mineral beauty and crafted mineral art.
This example stands out for the clarity of its violet crown, for the sharp separation between the quartz and chalcedony zones and for the warm gradient of agate bands at the base. It is a solid and weighty piece suitable for collectors of decorative minerals, for crystal display environments and for those who value the natural energy of amethyst combined with the visual calm provided by banded agate.
