Attic Greek kylix with two horizontal handles, orange-argile ceramic with a black-glaze interior and a exterior palmette frieze, dating to the 5th–4th century BCE, height 6.8 cm and width 18.5 cm, in good condition, from a private collection (Madame J. Z.), acquired in 2025 from Belgium.
Description from the seller
Greek kylix with two handles, black glaze and palmette frieze.
Greece, Attica, 5th – 4th century BC.
Height: 6.8 cm – Total width: 18.5 cm (handle to handle).
An elegant Attic kylix resting on a slender ring foot, with two slightly raised horizontal handles. The exterior decoration features a beautiful frieze of radiating palmettes painted in reserve on an orange clay background, typical of classical and post-classical Attic workshops.
The interior is decorated with a large reserved circular tondo, surrounded by a thick black varnish.
Condition:
Conservation: Some visible glued and restored areas, wear and tear to the varnish, but a very beautiful object for its time, with harmonious preservation of the lines and decoration.
Provenance: Private collection of Mrs. J. Z., part of the family heritage
for about fifty years.
An invoice and a certificate of authenticity from the expert will be provided to the buyer.
