A very RARE and beautiful 2 volume set ..."Cathedrals, Abbeys, and Churches of England and Wales; Descriptive, Historical, Pictorial" edited by Prof. T.G. Bonney.
Publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering and decorations on the front board, gilt lettering on the spines; all edges gilt. Black endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a frontispiece in each volume and with nine plates and numerous in-text wood engravings in volume one, seven plates and numerous in-text engravings in volume two. A charming tour of historic, religious landmarks in the British Isles, replete with illustrations of places like St. George's Chapel, the Temple Church of London, Canterbury, St. Paul's Cathedral, Oxford, and many others. Various authors contributed detailed essays for the descriptions of these landmarks.
Book in overall good to very good condition, inside light stains but overall clean and complete. Binding a little shaky but all pages attached. Externally original cloth with light wear around edges and corners, shelfwear, light stains on boards.
Scarce and attractive set!!!!
