Pre-Columbian Art
Mayan Areas – Classic Maya

Period: c. 500–800 AD
Size: 18 x 16 x 17 cm wide

Figurative bowl made of cream-colored ceramic depicting a seated man holding both hands to his chest, depicted with two front teeth and tightly closed eyes.
Wearing a headdress with side flaps, a raised central crest, large, spiral-shaped earrings, and a beaded loincloth. Bowl integrated into the body.
Rattle-like base.
Scattered surface and mineral deposits.
Small chip on the rim of the bowl, some restorations to both legs and the loincloth.

Provenance: Galerie Arte Primitivo – New York, 2004
Collection of Teodoro Fuxa, Ambassador to Colombia, El Salvador, and Panama, 1960s, and collected at that time.

Figurative Schüssel aus cremefarbener Keramik, die einen sitzenden Mann darstellt, der beide Hände an die Brust hält, dargestellt mit zwei Vorderzähnen und fest geschlossenen Augen.
Trägt einen Kopfschmuck mit seitlichen Laschen, einem erhabenen Mittelkamm, großen, spiralförmigen Ohrschmuck und einem perlenbesetzten Lendenschurz. In den Körper integrierte Schüssel.
Rasselartige Basis.
Vereinzelte Oberflächen- und Mineralablagerungen.
Kleiner Chip am Rand der Schale, einige Restaurierungen an den beiden Beinen und am Lendenschurz.
