Sierhuis, Zonder titel, 1995, mixed media in Cobra style, original edition, framed, 66 × 81 cm, Netherlands.
Description from the seller
Beautiful work by Sierhuis. Well framed and a top piece from 1995. Artwork dimensions: 50 x 65 cm.
Sierhuis grew up during the years of the depression. His father died when he was two. In his early childhood, he was already molding and drawing, and on his ninth birthday, he received a painting set. As a boy, he often wandered through Amsterdam. He grew up with cityscapes like those of Israëls and Breitner. Although Sierhuis has traveled all over the world, he has always considered himself an Amsterdammer. He attended a crafts school to become a house painter, which allowed him to gain extensive material knowledge.
He stood alongside Appel, Corneille, and Lucebert at the center of post-war developments in art. In 1945, he was admitted to the evening course at the Rijksakademie of visual arts, which he left after a conflict. In 1947, he was involved with the Experimentelen and in 1948 with the CoBrA group. However, he was too young to become a member. Later, in 1962, he was a co-founder of the Amsterdam artists' group Groep Scorpio with Frans de Boo, Roger Chailloux, John Grosman, Guillaume Lo A Njoe, Karl Pelgrom, Pierre van Soest, Aat Verhoog, and Leo de Vries. They were 'Angry Young men'.
Viewing of the plot is always possible. All contact information can be found on our own website. Art Dumay has an in-house list-making workshop with nearly 100 years of experience. If you're interested, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
