New edition of Buffon's Works, in 20 volumes, comprising all the parts treated by the author, with the various supplements that were successively added, fused into the text.

A total of 210 engraved plates, of which 203 were watercolor at the time, depicting over 500 subjects: in the first volume, an engraved portrait of the author as a frontispiece, and maps of Africa and America, fold-out and enhanced with colors; 6 black plates, 2 color plates (monstrosities), a color fold-out map, 130 color plates of birds, and 68 of mammals.

The vast majority of the boards were drawn by Vauthier; some of them were by Traviès.

Beautiful example in original binding, half brown leather, spine with gold tooling and decorated with gold stamps. - Solid volumes with a good external appearance (one corner broken on the binding, see photo). Most plates are unmounted but generally clean, with varying foxing on the text pages. Two plates and two flyleaves in volume 10. Overall in good condition.
