Pierre Fabre - Traité des maladies vénériennes par M. Fabre, Mtre en chirurgie - 1773

The textbook is a teaching resource for young surgeons, with detailed descriptions of symptoms, stages, and treatments of venereal diseases — particularly syphilis and gonorrhea.
Fabre describes not only symptoms but also causes (he calls it 'a venom, a virus' transmitted between bodies) — which makes it historically interesting because it reflects medical beliefs before modern bacteriology.
He discusses various treatment methods: herbs, enemas, diets, but especially — in the case of chancres — the use of mercury (both externally and internally) as a 'great remedy'.
The physical description: a leather (leather/marble) band, with gilded spine (gilded dos à nerfs), decorative, with approximately 592 pages for the first part — plus 120 pages of 'new observations' in this edition.
