Description from the seller

Dewi Sri / angelic mother goddess with child – hand-carved wood – Bali, Indonesia – circa late 20th century

Beautiful set of two large, richly detailed wooden figures, each depicting a Balinese goddess with wings and a child in her arms. Hand-carved from solid wood and traditionally painted in green-gold and blue-gold, with refined ornamentation on the wings and sarong.

The faces are typical of Balinese woodcarving: serene expressions, elegant facial features, long earlobes with gold jewelry, and high hairstyles. Both figures are crafted as wall sculptures, with original metal hooks on the back.

This type of imagery is often interpreted in Bali as a combination of Dewi Sri (mother goddess / fertility) and angelic Apsara figures. The presence of the child and the prominent wings make this a rare and decorative pair.

Dimensions (per image):
about 70 cm high
Approximately 31 cm wingspan
Wood, polychrome, and gold paint.

Condition:
In good condition. Some minor signs of use, small paint spots consistent with age, but no fractures or major damages.

Sold as a set.
Insured shipment of the box made in March.
