Description from the seller
We present the Marlen Cadran Solaire Prestige Collection.
Luxurious, most opulent, regal yet intriguing and original... Certainly unique, with irresistible and unmistakable charm! A dual-purpose instrument that allows you to discover the pleasure of possessing something completely different and absolutely unique and rare: the sundial pen. The Cadran Solaire Prestige pen is made using investment casting (solid silver); each piece is then handcrafted by Marlen jewelers who meticulously refine the forms and details. Precious stones (3 rubies) are set into it. The sundial, which has been miniaturized to fit the cylindrical shape of the pen, shows the hours of the day and the different constellations. At the top end, around the butt, are engraved the initials of the 12 months of the calendar, from which extend vertically towards the pen body other lines indicating the zodiac signs. To use the Cadran Solaire as a sundial, hold the pen vertically and open the horizontal gnomon at a 90° angle to the time line of the dial (the pen body). The three spheres of the gnomon correspond to the three latitude points on the pen (highlighted with rubies) indicating 40°, 45°, and 50°. When the pen is used as a fountain pen, the gnomon must be closed. The gnomon is made of solid gold. One of the high-relief engravings on the pen, near the grip, is the phrase 'EN GIRO TORTE SOL CICLOS ET ROTOR IGNE', which can be read from left to right and right to left – indicating the extraordinary infinite solar cycle of the seasons. At both ends of the pen (cap tip and barrel end), artisans Marlen have expressed the best of their craft by engraving in high relief a sun and compass design. The grip is made of grey veined celluloid. It is operated by a bottom button. The packaging of the Cadran Solaire is also fitting for such an important pen.
