Description from the seller
A fragment of ocean captured in stone. This magnificent specimen of larimar is presented in a naturally sculptural free form, with polished surfaces that highlight an extraordinary crystalline network, similar to reflections of light on white sand beneath transparent water. The shades range from pearly white to saturated turquoise, crossed by dendritic structures and internal "eyes" with perfectly drawn shapes.
Larimar is a rare variety of pectolite, formed in a volcanic environment, composed of sodium, calcium, and silica, with its blue color due to the presence of copper. It is exclusively extracted from a single location in the world: the mountainous region of Los Chupaderos, in the province of Barahona, in the southwestern part of the Dominican Republic.
The name "Larimar" was coined in 1974 by combining "Larissa", the name of geologist Miguel Méndez's daughter, with "sea".
His official discovery is recent, but some believe that it was already known by the Taino, the ancient inhabitants of the island, who considered it a sacred stone.
It is considered by many as a "spiritual stone" linked to communication, inner peace, and the calming power of water. It is often associated with the throat chakra.
Collectible note: Superior quality specimen, ideal for display or meditation. Bright colors and crystalline structure make it a remarkable and sought-after piece among collectors of exotic minerals and ornamental stones.
