Set of six lithographs in wood frames with glass, dating to the late 19th – early 20th century, after Louis-Léopold Boilly, with some patina and age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Set of six humorous lithographs attributed to Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761–1845), a renowned French painter and caricaturist known for his genre scenes and satirical compositions. Each lithograph depicts a comic scene featuring popular characters in everyday situations, with exaggerated expressions and staging typical of the caricature aesthetic of the early 19th century.
The lithographs bear a printed signature 'L. Boilly' as well as a date between 1824 and 1826. They are very likely to be old (but later) prints made after Boilly's originals, as was widely practiced in the 19th century.
The visible titles
Lust
The Nut Eaters
The Gossip
Greed
The Desire
The Drunkards
The set is presented in matching light wood frames, simple assembly, with glass in place. The leaves show signs of aging (yellowing, small rust spots), consistent with their age.
