Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd. Swan Eternal No. 54 ETN fountain pen, made in the United States from green translucent mottled celluloid with an ebonite feed, 116 mm long and 11 mm in diameter, in good used condition with the ETN/54 inscription legible on the barrel and a functioning lever filler.
Description from the seller
This Mabie Todd Swan model ETN/54, a coveted piece within the Eternal series, is presented in a notably solid condition for its historical category. Made from green marbled celluloid, it offers a vibrant and uniform aesthetic, faithfully preserving the visual essence of the high-end Swans of its era.
Body condition
The body, made of translucent green celluloid with marbled veins, retains a clean and well-defined surface. No cracks, deformations, or fractures are observed, confirming careful maintenance. The original inscriptions—including the distinctive ETN/54 on the base of the barrel—remain legible and correctly positioned, reinforcing the authenticity of the specimen.
Cap and metallic details
The cap maintains its structure without deformations and closes precisely over the body. The gold clip, characteristic of the Swan Eternal, retains its original shape and functional tension, with surface wear consistent with its age but without severe loss of plating. The gold rings of the cap remain well seated, with shine and no dents.
Charging system
This unit retains its classic lever filler mechanism, with a lever that appears intact, properly embedded, and operational. It shows no excessive play or signs of improper intervention. Although the condition of the internal bag cannot be verified without opening, externally the mechanism demonstrates smooth operation.
Nib and feeder
The gold nib — engraved with the inscription Mabie Todd & Co. Eternal — is in excellent structural condition. No bends, cracks, or abnormal wear are apparent. Its alignment with the ebonite feed is correct, and the latter retains its original geometry without visible obstructions. The set promises a smooth, consistent writing experience typical of the Eternal.
Conclusion
The La Swan ETN/54 presented here represents a highly collectible piece: authentic, aesthetically coherent, with a structural condition above average, and all its essential elements well preserved. Its combination of noble materials, classic mechanism, and exceptional visual presence position it as a premium acquisition for collectors seeking historical pieces in top condition.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
