Antique French family clocks
c. 1880
French watchmaker and watch manufacturer
On May 22, 1749, Georges 'Frédéric' Louis Japy was born in Beaucourt in the French Jura. His father was Jacques 'LeJeune' Japy (1724 – November 14, 1797), an iron merchant and mayor of Beaucourt.
On January 4, 1812, the founder of the company passed away in Badevel. His sons, Frédéric Guillaume (Fritz) Japy, Louis Frédéric Japy, and Jean Pierre Japy, took over the business. From 1820 onward, watch movements were signed with 'JAPY FRERES'.
