Grand Hsun-ok Burmese Ceremonial (Myanmar), Second Half of the 20th Century

This large vessel is a Hsun-ok, a fundamental ritual object of Burmese Buddhist art. It was traditionally used for transporting and offering food to monks.

Its elegant and slender form testifies to the excellence of local artisans in the art of lacquering, giving the piece a strong visual presence.

Origin: Myanmar (Former Burma)

Estimated period: second half of the 20th century (c. 1970–1980)

Materials: Woven bamboo covered with natural lacquer (Thitsi) in orange.

Good overall condition. The item shows signs of wear and use expected for a piece of this era. Small chips and marks are noted on the lacquer on the lid and the base.
