Author/Illustrator: Jules Verne; Book Title: Vingt Mille Lieues sous les Mers.
Description from the seller
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas propels the reader into the ocean's depths aboard the legendary Nautilus, where Professor Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned Land discover a fascinating underwater world. Guided — and sometimes held captive — by the mysterious Captain Nemo, they face abyssal forests, battles against titanic creatures, and unforeseen natural wonders. The tense and grand adventure gradually reveals Nemo's inner wound, a dark genius reigning as an absolute sovereign over the silence of the seas. A true scientific odyssey, the novel redefines the boundaries of the fantastic and exploration.
Born in 1828 in Nantes, Jules Verne grew up between maritime daydreams and literary passions, before becoming one of the visionary fathers of science fiction. A curious scholar of everything, he explored continents, the depths, and the stars through an imagination nourished by emerging sciences. An indefatigable worker, he published more than sixty novels in the series of Extraordinary Voyages. His work, blending scientific rigor with epic spirit, has a lasting influence on literature and popular sciences. He passed away in 1905, recognized as a universal visionary.
Jules Verne - Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas
Paris, Hetzel, without date, circa 1900.
Superb cardboard binding with a title in the fan, in good condition. The gilding is well preserved and shiny. Signs of use and small missing parts at the corners and caps. Clean covers. Irregular gutter. Cardboard fragile with cracked guards. Still, it remains well supported. Interior well preserved, without foxing, richly illustrated.
