Censer - altro - Bronze, Cloisonné - Japanese Koro Meiji

Superbo Incensiere giapponese in bronzo e cloisonné – Grande shishi scolpito- Periodo Meiji 1860-1880. Patina originale calda, mai sottoposto a puliture aggressive. **************** Superb Japanese Bronze and Cloisonné Incense Burner – Large Sculpted Shishi – Meiji Period 1860-1880 Extremely rare and important kōro (large tripod incense burner) in bronze with museum-quality polychrome cloisonné enamels. From the peak period of Meiji-era production (ca. 1860-1880), when Japanese cloisonné technique reached its absolute technical and aesthetic zenith. Main features: Magnificent finial in the form of a seated shishi (Buddhist lion) of extraordinary plasticity: head turned, hand-modeled and hand-chiseled with exceptional mastery (see macro photos). Pierced lid, globular body decorated with fiery red, emerald green, cobalt blue, turquoise, and yellow enamels on a brown-black ground. Upper band with shippō-tsunagi (interlinked seven-treasures) motif. Material: cast and turned bronze, cloisonné enamels with silver wire. Provenance: Italian private collection (acquired in the 1980s from a Milanese gallery). Condition: excellent for its age. Enamels very well preserved, only the slightest micro-chipping from ancient use (almost invisible to the naked eye). Warm original patina, never subjected to aggressive cleaning. No restorations, no significant enamel loss. A piece of great visual impact and markedly superior to the average production of the period: the sculpted shishi is among the most beautiful and dynamic examples found on an incense burner of this size. Perfect for discerning collectors of Japanese Meiji bronzes and cloisonné.
