Details about the brand
Manufacturer: The Utzschneider & Cie manufactory in Sarreguemines.
Period: The green mark with the crowned coat of arms of Lothringen was used over a long period, approximately from 1860 to 1922.
Symbolism: The coat of arms displays the three alerions (stylized eagles) of Lorraine, crowned with a wall crown that symbolizes the historical connection of the manufactory to the region and its history.
meaning of the numbers
The hand-painted red digits on your piece provide further clues to the item's individuality.
Decoration number: The number '242' (or similar) is likely the internal number for a specific or new decoration applied to the plate. Such decoration numbers, for example, were associated with the rights for pattern 216 in 1862 and the corresponding unrestricted rights.
• Serial or form number: The '14' could be a serial number, a form number, or initials of a specific worker involved in the manufacturing process. During certain periods or for specific series, the exact pattern numbers were permitted.
