Two Dutch tin-glazed faience tiles from roughly 1770–1800, 13 by 13 cm and 1 cm deep, weighing 698 g, depict a hand-painted tulip bouquet within a cloud cartouche in Delft blue, with characteristic corner lily motifs and notable craquelé; one right tile measures 12.5 by 12.5 cm.
Description from the seller
Set of two beautiful antique Dutch tiles from the 18th century (ca. 1770–1800), executed in Delftware blue. Both tiles depict a graceful tulip bouquet with side flowers, a popular motif in 18th-century floral tradition.
The painting is entirely handcrafted in cobalt-containing blue glaze and framed with a cloud cartouche, a typical late 18th-century motif. In the corners, there is the characteristic lily corner motif, as extensively described by Jan Pluis in The Dutch Tile (Pluis, 1997) within the corner motif categories.
Flower tiles of this type are often attributed to Friesland (Makkum / Harlingen) or the Zaanstreek, where this kind of flower compositions and corner motifs were frequently found.
