Atlantic Ocean – Compiled and Drawn by The National Geographic Society, United States, 1944, an original military‑oriented map of the Atlantic Ocean with revisions from 1941 and notes concerning transatlantic routes and the Isthmus of Panama.
Description from the seller
Original large military-oriented map of the Atlantic Ocean, issued by the Cartographic Section of The National Geographic Magazine. The map documents the strategic situation, navigation and air routes, maritime zones, and war operations in the Atlantic region around the outbreak of World War II.
This specimen is based on the international borders and geopolitical relations of September 1, 1939 (the start of WWII) and includes revisions and annotations from September 1941, during the middle of the Atlantic War. The map was printed by A. Hoen & Co., Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A.
Due to the amount of operational maritime information, this map was then used for analyzing trans-Atlantic shipping routes, submarine threats, strategic corridors, military air routes, time zones, and convoy routes.
