Description from the seller
Splendid crumb collector signed by Halphen for Christofle in good condition, with wear scratches.
Approximately 6.5 x 28 x 20 cm.
Founded in Paris in 1842, the Charles Christofle and Company Society opened branches in several European countries and established sales houses in Switzerland, Brazil, and Argentina. The company became famous following a commission from Napoleon III, followed by another equally important one from the Emperor of Mexico. Upon Charles Christofle's death in 1863, his son Paul and his nephew Henri Bouilhet took over. The latter, a chemist and artist, introduced a new process to the manufacturing: electroplating. Henri Bouilhet gave the company a significant boost by deciding to produce cutlery in Saint-Denis, which until 1878 was machined by one of his partners, Charles Halphen.
Happy bidding everyone!
Like all my objects, a cleaning may be necessary to restore their charm and give them back the panache they deserve.
