Since 1932, Zippo has been known for its durable, windproof lighters and the iconic 'click' sound. Over the years, they have become not only practical but also a beloved collectible, thanks to special editions, engravings, and themed versions.

Zippo did not use date codes back then (these only started in 1955). So, 1951 specimens can be identified by their bottom stamp:
ZIPPO / BRADFORD, PA.
Without extra dashes, letters or numbers — the exact typography and engraving depth help collectors determine the year.

Military use
Many 1951 Zippos were personalized by American soldiers in Korea. As a result, engravings from that year are sought after — often with names, units, or handmade art.
