100% Sangiovese with hints of the more emblazoned Bolgheri found a few miles further north.
Unlike Bolgheri, L'Az. Agricola Pianese uses only Sangiovese, so the exercise is very interesting because the French contamination is not there.
There is the "stamp" of the Tuscan coast, Capalbio is just a few kilometers from the sea, on a typically inland grape variety. Aged in small French oak barrels for 18 months, then long bottle aging.
Garnet red color. Incense, crème caramel, rhubarb, spices, pepper and cloves in particular. On the palate, black currant, crème brûlée, crunch and chocolate. Elegant, silky tannins, with a hint of raisins on the finish (but not a positive feature).
