Description from the seller
A large Japanese chiseled bronze vase, decorated in relief with two wide reserves in the shape of vases, from which two finely modeled and engraved oni (鬼) appear to emerge, as if coming out of the vessels themselves.
On one side is depicted a courtly scene with armoured samurai and Benzaiten (弁才天), the goddess of music, water, and fortune.
The reverse features a flowering branch with birds in flight.
The surface is enriched with geometric patterns and dragon (ryū, 竜) decorations in an archaic style.
The neck and base are adorned with ornamental bands of stylised motifs.
Relief mark under the base.
With the Haitōrei Edict of 1876, which forbade the samurai from wearing swords, the metal masters of the Edo period transformed their craft. They turned to creating decorative art bronzes, refining alloys and patinas of extraordinary beauty.
The vase is in good condition with signs of age on the patina and minor wear consistent with time. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
---The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL express or FedEx.
