Book Title: Album : Liber Amicorum [Reliure romantique], Title: Album - Liber Amicorum, Country of Origin: Allemagne, published 1856–1858.
Description from the seller
Charming autograph book containing 26 loose handwritten pages (10.5 x 6 cm), most dated and signed, written in German between 1856 and 1858 by various individuals: Emil Willi, Sophia Wesle, Ernst Schmidt, Andreas Hieninger, Dina Haas, etc.
Decorated with three reproductions in color. The rest of the pages are blank.
Kept in a beautiful cardboard box, the covers are decorated with rich romantic motifs, four roses at the corners, and the word 'Souvenir' in gilded lettering, framed by gold patterns. The second cover is decorated in the center with a bouquet of colorful flowers. A cardboard medallion, cut and glued onto the inner cover, depicts two doves framed by a crown of roses. Gilded edges.
In very good overall condition. Beautiful penmanship. Some scuffs on the box, slightly cracked spine. Interior clean and fresh, small stains on the second endpaper.
A liber amicorum (friendship book in Latin), album amicorum (friendship album), Poesiealbum (poetry album in German), or simply a book of friendship is a personal notebook where friends' drawings, photographs, and words are collected. It is a book of a specific format, traditionally carried during a trip; friends leave a dedication and/or a token of affection on this occasion.
A fine example.
