Description from the seller
Between 1935 and 1949, stories of Tintin were published in the Portuguese magazine O Papagaio.
This is a very special series because
For the first time, Tintin was translated and published outside Belgium.
For the first time, the drawings were colored, so earlier than Hergé did!
For the format of O Papagaio, the images were manipulated so that they could sometimes be displayed as 'portrait' and sometimes as 'landscape' / oblong / a l'Italienne. In some stories, this alternation was done within a single issue!
Hergé was fine with O Papagaio publishing the stories – permission was granted – but he was not very pleased that the images were being distorted.
All in all, the numbers of O Papagaio are worth collecting for various reasons.
In this lot, you will find:
Tim-Tim in Angola (Tintin in the Congo), now Tintin in a Portuguese colony!
11 exemplars, from 10.8.1939; one exemplar without a cover, but complete with Tim-Tim.
The Unicorn's Secret, 20 copies, from February 13, 1947.
Two specimens are incomplete, but the strip of Tim-Tim is not damaged.
In one of the photos, you will see an image of which magazine issue numbers can be found in this lot.
The magazines are carefully packed and shipped via Post.nl, insured, and with the usual Track & Trace service.
Due to the uncertain situation regarding import tariffs with the US, we DO NOT ship to the US.
