Description from the seller
Water Set; Ewer and Washbasin
Decorative style water set, consisting of a tall ewer with a handle and a washbasin. Both pieces feature fluted decoration and a bright silver finish.
-Origin: Italy.
-Style: Historicist with Neo-Rococo influences (also known as the Umbertine style), very evident in the shape of the basin and ewer, the floral decoration of the saucer, and the organic motifs on the ewer's handle.
-Estimated Period: Late 19th to early 20th century (c. 1870-1910).
-Material: Ewer (Pitcher): Silver-plated alpaca (German silver or Maillechort in France). Confirmed by the "ALPACA" stamp on the base; Washbasin: Silver-plated brass.
-Technique: Body and Base: Probably manufactured by stamping or embossing to create the fluted design and the domed shape. The center of the plate was created by high-relief embossing, displaying a dense bouquet of roses. The ewer's handle is a cast piece. Finish: Electrolytic silver plating (electroplating) over the base metal.
-Marks: Ewer (Pitcher): It bears the "ALPACA" mark on the sole, indicating the base metal. Washbasin (Plate): No visible mark or stamp was found.
-Dimensions:
*Ewer (Pitcher): Height 34.8cm x Length (from handle to spout) 18cm x Diameter at center 13cm (more measurements in the photo)
*Plater (Plate): Total diameter 27cm x diameter of inner bowl 14cm x Height 4cm
-Condition: Overall good condition for its age. The silver-plated surface still retains a high level of shine and reflectivity.
*Ewer: Shows minimal surface wear typical of use and cleaning, with micro-scratches. The silver plating remains in good condition.
Platter: Shows three visible dents (see photos), which is common in objects of this period and material.
*Cleaning: The interior of the pitcher and the deep cavities of the fluted design may require (if desired) a more thorough cleaning.
