Description from the seller

Christmas is coming....
Tip: Follow this seller for more antique sports items that I will be offering on Catawiki in the near future.
I possess an extensive private collection of unique, antique, and sometimes very rare sports items that I have collected and exhibited over 40 years at the Hans Brinker Schaats Museum.

1 pair of queen skates in the original cardboard box.
Size 31. Length of skates 43 cm.
Condition very good
Time period: 1891-1940
Queen's skates are one of the most beautifully crafted skates in the history of skating in the Netherlands. They are beautifully finished with brass footplates, making them very attractive to look at, with a rich and very luxurious appearance, complete with fine leather bindings.
It is no coincidence that the queen of the Netherlands skated on these specially designed skates. Queen Emma, Queen Wilhelmina, and even Queen Juliana skated on this type of skates in their youth and adulthood. (This is described in various books and documented in many photographs and postcards).

The cardboard box is also very beautiful and includes the text: NV STOOMSCHAATSENFABRIEK, which means: Steam skating factory. V.H. Fa G.S RUITER, AKKRUM

The firm Ruiter supplied this pair of skates in 1895 'on order' to Queen Mother Emma. Princess Wilhelmina enjoyed skating on them. After Wilhelmina became queen in 1898 and ordered this model again from Ruiter in 1899 and 1900, the skate was named the Queen's skate. Incidentally, Her Majesty wished the skates to be fitted with yellow copper footplates rather than red copper, as Ruiter had intended.

Beautiful item as decoration in a mancave or as ornamentation in a rural interior, ski lodge, sports bar, country house, physiotherapy room, or museum.
