Alec Soth was born in the United States in 1969. He was nominated by Magnum Photos in 2004 and became a full member in 2008. He resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Soth values coincidence and serendipity. Since the publication of his first book in 2004, Sleeping by the Mississippi, he has published more than 25 books, including his most recent, Advice for Young Artists (2024).
He has held more than 50 solo and traveling exhibitions, including traveling shows organized by Jeu de Paume in Paris (2008), the Walker Art Center in Minnesota (2010), Media Space in London (2015) and the Hayama Museum of Modern Art (2022).
