Original edition of this humorous poem inspired by Voltaire's La Pucelle, published anonymously and attributed to the poet and playwright Alphonse du Congé Dubreuil (1734-1801).

It is adorned with a frontispiece by Claude-Louis Desrais engraved by Jeanne Deny.

Vintage, leather-bound book with havana marbled calf, smooth spine, gilded fleursons and panels, title on a piece of red morocco. Framing with gilded roulette on the covers. Gilt-edged pages.

Condition: head cap shaved, first jaw split (solid flat), wear from use. Rare rust spots inside. Good condition.

Alphonse Du Congé Dubreuil is also the author of an opera libretto in 1777 on the subject of Iphigenia in Tauris, of the comic opera The Cross-Dressed Lover or the Muleteers, in 2 acts, based on Jean de La Fontaine (1790), and of Paul and Virginie or the Triumph of Virtue, a lyric drama in 3 acts, based on Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1794).
