Portico clock in Greco-Roman style attributed to the Luis Felipe period (1850–1900), made of wood, with a winding key, from France and currently in good working condition.
Description from the seller
This Greco-Roman style portico clock, dated to the 19th century and attributed to the Louis Philippe period, is a piece of significant decorative presence and historical value. Its architectural design evokes classical temples, with vertical columns supporting an upper entablature, all crafted in ebonized wood and rosewood, noble materials that add contrast and visual depth.
The original marquetry from the period, in gold and orange tones, features floral and scroll motifs that enrich the structure with a refined and ornamental air. The central body houses a white circular dial with Roman numerals, framed by a detailed gold bezel. The black hands stand out against the light background, making it easy to read the time.
The pendulum, visible at the bottom, is decorated with gold engravings that harmonize with the rest of the set. The mechanism is cord-driven and is in good working condition, although it shows slight signs of age and could benefit from minor adjustments to achieve optimal accuracy. It includes its original key, which adds value and authenticity to the piece.
At the back, there is the striking system, which marks the half-hours and the full hours with a deep-toned gong. This type of striking was common in high-end salon clocks, adding an elegant auditory dimension to the domestic environment.
This watch combines the architectural sobriety of the Greco-Roman style with the decorative richness of the Louis Philippe taste, and represents a perfect synthesis between mechanical functionality and artistic expression.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
