Citizen Crystal Date Para Water with reference 52903, dating from the 1960s, featuring an automatic movement.
Description from the seller
Citizen – Crystal Date – Para Water – Ref. AUDS 52903-TA – Automatic – 1960s
This Citizen Crystal Date represents one of the brand’s transitional models from the late 1960s, a period when Japanese watchmaking rapidly moved toward higher-grade materials and modern styling.
While most domestic watches of the era still used acrylic crystals, Citizen introduced the “Crystal” line to emphasize its adoption of glass crystals—a premium feature at the time.
The Crystal Date combined this improved durability with Citizen’s early Para Water technology, giving everyday users a more robust, moisture-resistant wristwatch.
The glossy black dial with applied indices, slim case profile, and understated date window make this model a perfect example of Citizen’s elegant, urban design language of the 1960s.
The watch also retains its original signed “C” crown, an increasingly scarce detail that significantly enhances collectability.

Overall Assessment

a model that blended modern materials (glass crystal), emerging water-resistant construction (Para Water), and a clean, dress-oriented design language.
With its glossy black dial, reliable 17-jewel automatic movement, preserved original crown, and a glass crystal that remains in very good condition, this watch offers excellent value both as a vintage daily wearer and as a representative example of Citizen’s transitional era craftsmanship.
