Sheaffer Balance fountain pen, made in the United States, with striped celluloid in black/brown, a 14K gold #33 nib, lever-fill mechanism, and in good used condition with minor signs of wear, 129 mm long and 10.5 mm in diameter.
Description from the seller
This elegant Sheaffer Balance pre-Triumph, equipped with a Sheaffer #33 gold nib of 14 karats, has been examined and verified by our specialists, confirming its authenticity and excellent condition for a piece produced between the late 1930s and early 1940s.
The striated celluloid in Black/Brown tone is notably well preserved, with a deep and uniform shine. It shows only minor signs of use typical of its age, with no cracks, deformations, or contractions, a detail especially appreciated by collectors. The engraving on the body, including the mold number and Sheaffer brand, remains sharp and perfectly legible, indicating that the pen has not undergone abrasive polishing.
The cap fits correctly and retains its original gold clip, with the SHEAFFER’S engraving clean and well-defined. The gold ring shows minor surface wear, typical of the period, with no significant plating loss or structural irregularities.
The #33 nib, made of 14K gold, is in excellent condition: the engraving is deep, the tip is clean and free of deformations, and the gimbals maintain perfect alignment. The ebonite feed, completely original, retains its fins in perfect condition, ensuring a stable feed after proper maintenance of the filling system.
The Lever-Fill system presents good mechanical integrity. The lever is operated firmly and sits well in its slot. As is customary with vintage fountain pens, it is recommended to replace the internal sac if you wish to use it immediately, although the mechanism is complete and functional.
After a detailed evaluation, the piece is classified as a very well-preserved, intact, original, and aesthetically outstanding example. Its combination of striated celluloid, gold #33 nib, engraved clip, and excellent overall condition make it a highly collectible pen, ideal for both static collection and refined writing.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
