DESCRIPTION
Founded over a century ago in 1920, Pitters remains fully dedicated to the tradition of producing Port wines from the traditional grape varieties of the Douro Valley.
The brand William Pitters was created on 14th January 1920 by Émile Greloud & Cie, a renowned trader from Bordeaux who began operating in 1887.
Greloud hasd been commercializing Port wines since 1888 under the name ‘Royal Porto’. Its portfolio at the time also included the brands ‘Royal Madére’, ‘Royal Malaga’, ‘Royal Alicante’, ‘Royal Moscatel’, ‘Royal Muscat’, ‘Malaga Royal’ and ‘Royal Xérès’. Émile Greloud imported the wines to Bordeaux and then sold them internationally.
William Pitters Port trademark was registered on 25th June 1925.
The tigers head has become the symbol of the William Pitters trademark for both Port wines and Bordeaux wines.
WINEMAKER: David Guimaraens.
WINE VARIETIES: Traditional from Douro Region.
VINIFICATION
Pitters 10 Year Old Tawny Port ages in small wooden casks, generally holding about 630 litres.
TASTING NOTES
Deep brick-red colour with narrow amber rim. Ripe, complex nose displaying rich jammy fruit aromas, spicy notes, a subtle nuttiness and mellow hints of butterscotch and dried fruit. The palate is beautifully silky and round, crammed with, mature fruit flavour which continues into the long, smooth finish. An elegant aged tawny port fully ready to be enjoyed after ten years of ageing in seasoned oak casks. A delicious dessert wine or the perfect finish to any meal.
SERVING
Excellent dessert wine, served at the end of the meal, with walnuts or toasted almonds. Or for somebody with a slightly sweeter tooth try it with a crème brûlée, a tiramisú or an apple pie. We suggest you try it with firm, mature and intense cheeses, as Comté, Gouda or Pecorino. This wine is ready to drink and does not require decanting. The wine benefits from being served slightly chilled, between 12ºC to 16ºC.The particular qualities of this wine allow it to be enjoyed over an extended period of time once opened, without losing its freshness and vibrancy. Optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is within two months.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
