Description from the seller
Beautiful and atmospheric painting by Dutch artist Henk Dekker (1897-1974), 30x40 cm with frame 39x49 cm.
Hand-signed oil paint on panel.
The work is executed in oil paint on a wooden panel, with warm tones and lively brushstrokes. Henk Dekker is known for his harbor and coastal views, in which he has vividly captured the Dutch light and the activity of water life in a characterful manner.
The time period depicted is from the 1930s to 1950s. The crane seen was a symbol of Holland's modernization. In the first half of the 20th century, when technology, trade, and transportation gave the country a new identity. Lifting bridges like those in Rotterdam were considered marvels of steel and craftsmanship, monuments of progress connecting cities. Henk Dekker was able to depict this new industrial landscape with human warmth. In the painting, the lever is not just a construction but a symbol of labor, connection, and reconstruction. The combination of poetry and technology is characteristic of his style. Carefully packed and insured for shipment.
