Every one of us tends to sit and reminisce about the old days. For almost a century now cars have been an inseparable part of our daily lives, so here's a list of some of the most iconic common and affordable, for their time, classic cars. Take a look and see if you'll find your first classic car in there!
The Volkswagen Beetle or ‘The Bug’
For a lot of us the options were (or still are) two: we either owned one or really, really wanted to get our hands on one of the classic VW Beetle models. With one of the longest production lives (1938-2003), ‘The Bug’ not only fulfilled its purpose of being a ‘people’s car’, but became a lifestyle for many, many people.
Perhaps the most popular Beetle in the world is Herbie, The Love Bug, which you probably also saw in Disney’s 1968 movie ‘The Love Bug’.

The Volkswagen Transporter
Hippies, hipsters or whatever you may call them, we bet you were one of them when it comes to wanting a Volkswagen Transporter van. What started out as a ‘Plattenwagen’ or flat car, designed by Major Ivan Hirst, that served to move parts around the Volkswagen factory, later evolved to become one of the most iconic vans, or even vehicles in the world.
After the T1, came a second generation of the VW Transporter - the T2 van. To this day the VW T2 is probably the most commonly known and recognisable model of the Transporter. Moreover, at the time it represented a lifestyle of vacations and leisure activities that people in post-war Europe were starting to be able to afford.

SEAT 600
During the post-war years in Europe, the people from each country were looking for a simple and affordable vehicle to motorise itself with. In the case of Spain particularly, this car was the SEAT 600. Being unbelievably to both purchase and run, the SEAT 600 quickly became an inseparable part of the streets in Spain after its launch in 1957. Its elegant and yet large body became a favourable choice for many.

Fiat 500
Let’s face it. There probably isn’t a more iconic and recognisable Fiat model than the classic Fiat 500. Not only does it have an unbelievably cute and jolly looking design, but it was (and still is) quite cheap to run, making it the ideal drive for so many people living in the city. This model has evolved a lot over the years, but one thing is for sure - it is one of the friendliest looking vehicles the world has ever seen and it will continue to brighten the streets with its charm for years to come.

Citroën 2CV
Believe it or not, this classic French gem was considered quite unattractive when it first launched in 1948. Its two-cylinder air-cooled engine could run for a whole day without stopping and served well to the purpose of the vehicle, which was to motorise the French provincial people. As years have gone by, the Citroën 2CV won over the hearts of many automobile lovers with its unique minimalistic and chic design.

So, which one of those is still sitting in your garage or was your dream car? Before you get all nostalgic, take a look at Catawiki’s classic cars auctions, where you can be reunited with an old gem like one of those.
