Five ideas to redecorate your house with Delftware

Delftware, the blue-and-white pottery from Delft, was one of the most popular export products of the Netherlands in the seventeenth century. However, the days where teacups were only used to serve tea or the only purpose of a plate was to serve food are long gone. Here are five ideas for you to redecorate your house using Delftware!

1. Make a collage of plates and tiles on your wall
You can use a collection of Delftware to decorate your wall! You can mix it up with other plates and tiles or keep it all blue and white, hang it symmetrically or scattered along the wall, whatever you like best! You can often find Delftware plates in our dutch ceramics auction.

2. Decorate (part of) your kitchen wall with Delfts blue
Is your kitchen ready for a make-over? Why not use Delftware? Again, you can mix it up or keep it blue, one thing is for certain: your kitchen will never look boring again.

3. Give your stairs a make-over
Did you ever consider your stairs could be an eyecatcher? Well, they can! It’s time to give those boring old stairs a make-over. Use Delftware tiles on the front of the stairs for a colourful and modern look.

4. Use old kitchenware as planters
Are your beautiful teacups and teapots just sitting around in a cabinet gathering dust? Give them a new purpose as a planter! They cheer up your interior, whilst being practical. Win-win!

5. Oh no, dropped it? Time to repurpose!
Either your cat was very curious to see what your Delftware looked like from up close, or you just made a wrong move with your vacuum cleaner: accidents happen. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the story! Don’t throw away the shards, but use them to create something new. How about making a mosaic or use it to decorate something, maybe a tray, a mirror or a planter. Or why not make jewellery out of it? Just beware of the sharp edges!
