This Season's Must Have Vintage Jewellery Trends to Watch Out For

In collaboration with Joyce Drijver - Jewellery Expert

Jewellery trends are forever changing and it is often difficult to keep up. From hoops to pearls and everything in between, how do we know which trend to follow? This year has seen some of the most courageous vintage designs hit the jewellery fashion world and we're here to help you find your way through it. Read on to find out how to stay on top of your jewellery game for 2017.

The All-New Dangle Earring
We all remember in the 90s saving up to buy those diamante chandelier Claire’s accessories earrings to go with our flared jeans and cropped tops for the Friday night disco. Although we feel as though we’ve come a long way since then, those dangle earrings that we know and love are back! This new wave of fancy earrings are (fortunately) less-chandelier like but instead drop chains, geometric forms and sculptural shapes. This nostalgia-inducing piece can add sophistication and sass to an outfit, transforming day-wear to night-wear. It’s time to delve back to the days of the dangle earring.

Neo-Pearls
When we think of pearls, we imagine Chanel clothes, class and composure. For years, pearls have been considered as a symbol of class and respectability, but 2017 has given the pearl a makeover, providing them with a cool-girl edge. Neo-pearls are pearls that have been spiced up by designers’ imagination in order to shake up their classic stereotype.  This new pearl has no rules, they are XXL, mounted on chic tribal rings, balanced on bracelets or converted into knuckledusters. Nevertheless, no matter the size or shape, pearls still offer a dainty touch of femininity to any ensemble.  This new style of pearl dominated the runway with Gucci, Miu Miu and of course the creator of the pearl, Chanel. It was Karl Largerfeld, the King of pearls himself who has led this revolution, so we know it’s one to stay.

Pic'n'Mix
This season we are ripping up the rule book when it comes to jewellery trends and how better to do that than to mix and match. This year we are not only mixing up styles, but also materials, shapes and designs. Wearing different earrings in each ear rather than pairs has become so popular this year that leading designers and shops have started selling mix-match earrings as a pack. This fresh look adds individuality and interest to any outfit. The more asymmetrical they can be, the better. This trend is set to skyrocket even further this year, so don’t lag behind, it’s time to pic’n’mix.

Oversized hoops
2017 is the year to think big. Hoops have long been a focus point for many designers year in, year out, as they try to stretch, rethink and redesign the classic hoop. This year is the year they get supersized.  From super-thin to shoulder-grazing, hoops promise to bring a casual edge to your look, as well as promising not to lose their classic style.  We’ve noticed many street stylists and designers revert back to the hoop in order to jazz up a white shirt and jean outfit. The oversized hoop is a trend to watch out for in 2017 and one of the most flexible. Next time you are looking to buy a pair of hoops, be bold, supersize them.

Jewellery trends change from season to season, promising innovative takes on classics or completely new styles and combinations. Whether you’re looking for the all-new dangle chandelier earring, so you can delve back into your past and relive the 90s, or you have your eyes on the neo pearls for a contemporary take on a classic, there is something for everyone this season. 2017 is the year of jewellery freedom, no rules, boundaries or regulations, so head over to our weekly Jewellery auctions now where you can find all these styles and more. It's time to start this summer ahead of the trend.
