Highlights from this week’s comics auctions

By Thomas | 23th October 2018

In our Expert’s Choice feature, one of our experts shares their favourite items currently in auction. This week our Comics expert, Wouter Korst, selects four exceptional items from our comics auctions for you to enjoy.

1. Gaston - Gaston T0 - format à l'Italienne - EO (1960) - Softcover - First edition

In this week’s Exclusive Comics Auction you can find an extremely rare album from Gaston, created by famous Belgian artist André Franquin. This tiny (19.50 cm x 8 cm) softcover is the first edition of the Gaston series and was published in 1960. When Gaston No. 0 was released, some shopkeepers assumed that it was a giveaway, because of its unusual size. Shortly after, Gaston gained worldwide popularity and millions of his comic books were sold.

2. Rosinski - Très grande illustration originale - Thorgal et Aarcia

Unfortunately, Rosinski decided to stop drawing the comic book series Thorgal. The good news is that other artists will continue the series and that you’ll have a chance to acquire the last album by his hand when it will be published in November. In our monthly Exclusive Comics auction, you can find a large illustration that’s created by Rosinski himself. This type of Rosinski’s art is rarely sold, as most pieces will be up for display in his museum in Switzerland.

3. Walt Disney - Original Production Drawing - Mickey Mouse - Fantasia (1940)

Micky Mouse celebrates his 90th anniversary this November! It all started in 1928 with his silent short called ‘Plane Crazy’, but his first appearance in a feature-length animated film was in ‘Fantasia’ as the sorcerer’s apprentice, which was released in 1940. In this week’s Comics Auction you can find an original production drawing from Micky in ‘Fantasia’. It’s not every day that you come across such a unique piece like this!

4. Batman VI - Original Painting - Diego Septiembre

Diego Septiembre’s style is easily recognised. His realistic style captures the essence of the characters brilliantly. You can find this original and signed artwork, and many more, in our Diego Septiembre Auction.
