Vineyard and VDP Classification Niederberg Helden is a Grand Cru VDP Grosse Lage vineyard in Lieser, characterised by steep slopes of blue Devonian slate. This terroir produces Rieslings of great depth, minerality and long term aging capacity. Grosse Lage represents the highest vineyard classification within the VDP system. Botrytis and Noble Rot Botrytis cinerea, known as noble rot, is essential for the production of the highest quality German dessert wines. Under ideal conditions of humid mornings and dry afternoons, the fungus pierces grape skins, slowly concentrating sugars, acids and aromas.
