Hofner 4890 model 1977 These models come with the neck glued to the traditional style, not with screws like most models of Hofner Within its range are the best of Hofner, both for materials, as for its construction and sound. It has the metal tuners working perfect The dimensions of the fingerboard are perfect for comfort, inlaid with mother-of-pearl in the mouth. Spruce top, the rest of the maple guitar, except the fingerboard and the bridge that are made of rosewood. Great sound, comfortable, fine tuning This model seems to have been an up-graded version of the 489, with a little purfling around the body and a more evident soundhole rosette. ASpruce top and flame maple back & sides was used, but the back and sides was finished to a dark brown, instead of the clear natural finish on the 489. Initially, Hofner fitted an adjustable bridge to the 4890, but this soon reverted back to the fixed type. A square shouldered body shape was adopted for the 4890 from the outset. The 4890 was supplied to Selmer London from about 1970 through into the mid-1970's and was marketed in the UK under the name "Hofner Blue Grass 6-String", Catalogue No: 5157. *Had a old Heel repair, all solid. *Pickgard have been replaced Eqquiped with new strings, ready to play!
