Cross pattée in center; annulet in first angle. Reference: Metcalf, Crusades 348. The Principality of Antioch was a major Crusader state founded after the First Crusade. Under Bohemond III (1163–1201), it stood between Byzantine, Armenian and Muslim powers. Captured by Nur al-Din in 1164, Bohemond was later ransomed and restored. After Saladin’s victories in 1187, much of Antioch’s territory was lost, though the capital survived. His later reign was marked by rivalry with Cilician Armenia and disputes over succession.
