Matthias Corvinus & Vladislaus II Silver Denár – Rare Mintmarks (2-Piece Lot)!
Condition: VF (Very Fine) – With Beautiful Patina!
A highly fascinating 2-piece historical silver denár lot that connects two consecutive but vastly different eras. The first piece is a silver denár from the reign of Matthias Corvinus featuring the sought-after K-P (flower) mintmark, while the second is an issue from the reign of Vladislaus II with a K-H mintmark. Both coins are preserved in a solid VF (Very Fine) condition and boast a beautiful, natural historical patina that greatly enhances their appeal. The classic Madonna iconography, the coats of arms, and the minting letters—crucial for collectors—are clearly visible. Mixed ruler lots identifiable by specific mintmarks and featuring untouched patina offer an excellent opportunity for investors looking for numismatic subtleties of the era. Please examine the uploaded photos carefully.
Historical Background (The Golden Age of the Raven King and the Jagiellonian Shift):
The reign of Matthias Corvinus (1458–1490) marked the last great-power peak of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary. Maintaining Matthias's mercenary army, the famous Black Army, required an astonishing amount of high-quality currency. The issues of the Körmöcbánya (K) chamber—such as the K-P flower type in this lot—were among the most stable currencies in Europe. After his death, the throne was taken by Vladislaus II (1490–1516). Although central royal power and military strength began to decline rapidly during the Jagiellonian era, the silver denars from Körmöcbánya (like the K-H mintmarked pieces) maintained their purity and international prestige. These two coins represent a tangible historical transition between Hungarian glory and the road leading to the tragedy of Mohács!
