African Guro Ceremonial Mask in Wood from Ivory Coast
This mask was carved in light-weighted wood, there is a little crack on the top-right, have a look at the pictures.
This kind of mask would appear in ceremonies celebrating successful hunting at the return of hunters.
Collected in Bouaflé in Ivory Coast -
Dance mask presenting a determined face, the glance is enhanced by the half-closed eyes. The cheeks and the forehead are ornamented with scarifications in relief. The hairdo is decorated with a Hornbill, symbol of fertility.
