Aristide Bruant is a famous 19th century French singer and songwriter.
His popular songs, his stage performances, his throaty and powerful voice and his stature have made him a monument of realistic French song. He is considered to be one of the great slang poets of the late 19th early 20th century.
He was one of the inventors of the realistic song, a movement that lasted until the middle of the 20th century with Edith Piaf as one of its last performers.
