Guaranteed original! A very impressive poster by Joop Sjollema (1900-1990) for the opera Boris Godounov from 1932. Performed by Feodor Chaliapine, produced by the Wagner Vereeniging. Boris Godounov was an opera written by Modest Moessorgski and based on the play by Aleksandr Poesjkin. It was first performed in 1874.
This poster is one of the highlights in Dutch poster design and referenced in many books on poster history. Technically superb printing by Van Leer with rich colors and gold ink. The poster has been professionally restored to museum standards and backed on thick japanese paper. Although it displays beautifully, it has some flaws. Most importantly there is is a very long tear running horizontally through most of the poster. Restoration concealed most of it, so it's not too distracting. Small missing pieces of paper in the margins have been replaced. Please take a close look at the photographs to get an idea of the condition. Will be shipped rolled in a wide and sturdy tube.
