Interesting 17th century Zeeland cupboard.
In this day and age, the people in the province of Zeeland were very rich and very Protestant.
That Protestant is completely expressed here - no 'decorations', gold, curls etc.
Sleek and understated - not exuberant, but certainly not shabby - the richness lies in the powerful and balanced design and the precious woods that have been used.
Beautiful deep dark colours increase the sober look.
(They were also dressed dark like this themselves)
Two pieces, an upper cabinet and a lower part.
On the inside, behind the lower doors, a wide drawer.
Beautiful profiles in the foot rules and the hood.
Panelled sides. Deep pillows.
All original. Also the lock. Keys work.
